Happy Monday—or maybe not so happy? Today, we’re making the case for snapping the F out of it and starting this week on the right foot. And what better way to lift your spirits than kicking this week off with a series of self-care rituals? From dry brushing to wearing a mask that will no doubt put a smile on your face, here are 5 ways to boost your mood using self-care.

Consider Dry Brushing

Hailed by skin experts, celebs and models alike, dry brushing is literally just that: brushing your body with a dry brush. The act gently exfoliates skin, sweeping away dead skin cells to promote a glowing and happier looking skin. It instantly energizes and according to Dr. Barbara Sturm, can even act as an anti-cellulite treatment. Just remember to use upward strokes to get the lymphatic system working.

Drink Lemon Water

Have you had your water today? Here’s your reminder to get sipping! I have this enormous cup from Amazon that I constantly refill during the day. My fave thing to do in the morning is to slice a few lemons and throw them in! That way, you are never drinking boring water. I also love adding ice cubes because I personally believe the ice cold water wakes me up!

Take an Ice Cold Shower

Scientifically proven by this cold-shower taker to instantly wake you up, skipping the hot water may do more for you than you think. It can increase circulation, boost immunity and even cause increased alertness throughout your day. If this idea just sounds down right awful, consider a 1 minute cold rinse at the end of your normal temp bathing sesh. Bonus points to those who use a nourishing and smile-inducing body wash, my picks above.

Slap on a Face Mask

Post shower, give yourself—and your skin—10 minutes to unplug. These days, I’m obsessed with Tata Harper’s Clarifying Mask, which uses AHA & BHAs to prevent breakouts (read: Maskne) and clear up the ones you’ve got. The trick here is to grab something colorful that makes you smile when you catch a glimpse of your reflection in the mirror.

add a mood-boosting fragrance

Ah, the transformative power of scent. If all else fails, consider spritzing some of your favorite perfume on. Perhaps one that reminds you of a tropical vacation or that weekend in Paris? Some of my favorites include Le Labo’s The Noir, Diptyque’s Eau de Sens and Frederic Malle’s Portrait of a Lady. And remember to remind yourself that you’re a bad ass b*tch.
